A multidisciplinary approach is often the best approach with physical injuries so stacking treatments is often key - Acu-wellness is unique in this. For pain, I often use a variety of different techniques in one session all depending on your needs, as it enhances your acupuncture.
For example, for back pain - following diagnoses to ascertain root cause, I may firstly start with acupuncture, followed by massage and / or cupping and remedial exercise advice.
Diet and lifestyle advise is always incorporated, you are not just a series of moving parts, but rather one entire being, and what you eat, your lifestyle and so on will have an impact on your pain levels.
So lets get started shall we? Just book a session and I will tailor to your needs. I've got your back (or shoulders, or head, or knees, or toes!)
Below is an overview of the modalities which I use in clinic to treat physical pain, or just simply to keep you performing at your best, or for dealing with those pesky injuries that we pick up along the way.
You know by now that I love acupuncture, and for physical pain and injuries it helps to get the job done more quickly than soft tissue treatments alone. It is recognised by doctors and is included in the NICE guidelines for treating chronic muscular pain as a preferential treatment over long term pain relief medication. Its an incredible alternative back pain relief for lower back and shoulders, healing tendons, and in short helping all of the sports injuries. Acupuncture works on many different levels in the body, physically and systemically. I do offer needle free treatments so dont worry if needles arent for you, just let me know.
More a remedial massage approach than the old idea with sports massage of beating your body into submission! It's sports massage but more intuitive to your nervous system. Remedial massage is used to apply soft tissue techniques to the areas which may be causing you physical pain, using a variety of techniques and tools - which feels less torturous than it sounds!
First things first, you might look like you've been hugging a friendly octopus after cupping, but everyone says its worth it! Cupping therapy is an alternative therapy that involves suctioning the skin with glass, plastic, or silicone cups. I most often utilise traditional fire cupping where a flame is passed through the glass cup to remove the oxygen, creating a suction effect when applied to the skin. It increases blood flow by up to 200% locally, whilst helping to remove the toxins and so alleviate pain at a deeper level. The cupping marks serve as a super diagnostics tool for me because the darker the mark when the cup is removed, the more stagnation was removed and so, it helps me to see where the issue is coming from - rather than simply chasing symptoms - we don't want to do that!
